Care:
We recommend keeping your sterling silver jewelry stored in a jewelry box when not being worn. This extra TLC will help to prevent oxidation. Avoid exposing your jewelry to any perfumes, soaps, or abrasive agents, like chemical cleaners or heat. Remove jewelry before swimming or showering. A soft polishing cloth should be used in the event of tarnish.
Artisan Testimonial:
Each of the women we work with has a story to tell. They have hopes and dreams that they rarely have an opportunity to share. Most of our artisans can't read or write. Several of them were married at 13 years of age. Many of them have endured domestic abuse and neglect. It has taken time (and several cups of chai!), but our artisan ladies TRUST me with their stories. One artisan lady sat at my desk recently and poured out her heart for 30 minutes. I sat and listened, she had so much to share. She had never talked like this before. When she was done, she said, “For you to give me your time like this, listening to me. It is the most precious thing you can give me. Thank you”. - Alicia

Artisan Testimonial:
"I live on a farm in Africa. Men have jobs on these farms, but women struggle to find work. No family members of mine could find a job so I had to make myself available to put food on the table. I was the only one that could support my family of 5. I would do the laundry, cooking, and make my body available to men working on the farms to earn money to feed my family. Sometimes the men would drink and abuse us and not pay. Then we had the opportunity to learn beadwork from a woman on one of the farms. We all learn traditional beadwork at school, but this was different. After two weeks of training, we could manufacture earrings and necklaces to sell. We have a saying in Africa that says, 'little makes a lot.' Earring by earring our lives changed. We felt proud, empowered, and strong. We could buy food, medicine and sometimes even fruit. We are the lucky ones. We try to teach more and more women in the rural villages so they can work under the big African trees and still watch over the children. No more laundry, cooking, and easy money to live. Bead by bead we did it!"
